JCLC Summer Camp

JCLC Summer Camp
While many high school students enjoy the break from the school year, 20 students from Buckingham County High School participated in one of the nation’s premier leadership training camps. The camp called JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) Eagle was held at Buckingham County High School and the Cumberland State Forest. The mission of the camp is: “To motivate young people to be better citizens” and the staff of the camp does all that it can to challenge these future leaders. The students who graduated this year's camp are: Ben Dorrier, Hayden Talbott, Parker Knight, Cameron Dews, Brendan Beydler, Hakim Edmonds, Minnie Wallace, Jon Gowans, Gavin Houchens, Grayson Talbott, Hailee Jones, Alex Boyles, Joey Boyles, Christian Portillo, Mya Portillo, Kinsley Smith, Cadence Jones, Skylar Davis, Aiden Schwerdfeger, Brydon Goolsby, Aiden Houchens, Arturro Anderson, Matthew Moneymaker and Haley Bourne.

The three day camp combines hands-on leadership training as the students participate in a series of activities ranging from a 5KM run, Obstacle Course, Litter Relay, Rope Bridge training, Drill and Ceremonies, Air Rifle, Archery and Academic Bowl where students are challenged with competitive academic panels to determine top honors. Every day presents challenges to the students as they rotate through leadership roles as they plan and organize each day’s activities. The camp culminates in a team 5KM run, Litter Relay Course, Rope Bridge and Archery. The final day would test each student as the team competes for camp honors in athletic and organizational events that test both physical, mental, and collaborative
skills.

Hayden Talbott was selected as this year's Distinguished Honor Graduate, Haley Bourne was selected as Honor Graduate and Brendan Beydler was Camp Runner Up. The camp is sponsored by the U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and conducted by staff drawn from Buckingham County High School. This year Buckingham County High School sent Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Fanter, Senior Army Instructor and Sergeant First Class Bruce Grazier, Army Instructor as Cadre.
